Key Responsibilities
* Process and sterilise dental instruments using validated cleaning and sterilisation protocols, including washer-disinfectors, ultrasonic baths and autoclaves—ensuring consistent, safe procedures per HTM 01‑05
* Maintain a clear and logical "dirty‑to‑clean" workflow to minimise infection risks and prevent recontamination.
* Conduct visual inspections of instruments using magnification and adequate lighting to verify cleanliness and functionality before sterilisation.
* Undertake, record, and help interpret regular audits of decontamination processes, documenting findings and improvements.
* Facilitate and assist in validation and regular performance testing of sterilisation equipment, ensuring adherence to manufacturer and legal standards.
* Ensure accurate documentation and logs are maintained for steriliser cycles, ultrasonic maintenance, training records, and validation procedures.
Desirable Knowledge & Qualifications
* Familiarity with HTM 01‑05 and its essential quality requirements, including maintaining separate dirty‑clean zones and validated cleaning processes.
* Understanding of the role of a "Decontamination Lead"—accountable for infection control and staff training delivery.
* Awareness of the importance of structured training, competency assessments, and quality management systems in decontamination workflows.
* Appreciation for continuous professional development (CPD): participation in relevant courses, workshops, regulatory updates, and membership of recognised bodies like the Institute of Decontamination Sciences (IDSc).
