We specialise in the design, manufacture and repair of hydraulic rams and cylinders, working on a wide variety of projects.
Main Role responsibilities:
* Work within the guidelines of the company quality management system
* Take a lead role in the execution of company business ensuring that company standards and integrity of work are maintained and ensure subordinates aligned follow suit.
* Ensure that all work is completed to specification, in accordance with the Company's procedures and quality standards
* Ensure that workmanship is of the highest standard at all times, and satisfies the Company's and customer's requirements
* Make every effort to ensure work is completed on-time and within budget, identifying additional work not included in the original estimate and reporting information to General Manager and production lead.
* Ensure that a full and accurate record of time spent on each activity is recorded on timesheets each week
* Work with the Branch Manager to identify personal training needs, and undertake appropriate training programmes within work schedules
* Ensure that all Health & Safety requirements are met & that the relevant Risk Assessments are completed and actioned
* Ensure the machine shop and all working areas are kept clean & tidy at all times
* Following engineering drawings to manufacture precision components to tight tolerances, from one-off bespoke requests to large productions, to required timescales
* Familiar with machining techniques including Manual milling, turning and drilling and Safe working practice knowledge for those types of operation
* Use of appropriate cutting tools for material and machine type
* Operating and setting up of various milling machines, turning/lathes machines and boring machines
* Use of accurate measuring tools and devices
* Use of measuring equipment, basic mathematical skills to work out needed dimensions
* Basic record keeping, to allow traceability
* Basic maintenance machinery employed
* Knowledge of material behaviour during machining
* Correctly identify materials selection
* Ensure completed component is checked against specification/ drawings
* Follow machine maintenance schedule, reporting any faults to relevant personnel
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Act in a professional and responsible manner at all times when representing the Company
* Take advantage of any further product or personal development opportunities offered by the company
* Ensure timely completion of stock requisitions for all components removed from stock
* To be available when required for off-site commissioning, service & repair work
* To be prepared to work out of normal working hours when required
* Ensure the safe-keeping, regular maintenance of company tools and equipment assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
(Knowledge, skills, experience)
· Good understanding of general engineering practices
· Driving Licence
· Own hand tools (where applicable)
· Knowledge of hydraulic system desirable but not essential
· Willingness to undertake training and further education where identified
· Requirement to support the Company Health and Safety policy and take a lead role in ensuring a safe working environment is maintained.
COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS:
* Proven experience as Lathe Machinist, turner and miller and relevant qualifications in manual milling, manual turning and manual machining and worked in a machine shop
* Demonstrate ability to use calibrated measurement equipment such as verniers, callipers, DTIs, micrometres, gauges etc.
* Experience of working with fine tolerances
* Some knowledge or experience of CNC Machining would be an advantage but not essential
