Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Transport Officer to lead day-to-day operational delivery of Home-to-School transport services. You will manage route planning, employee/contractor performance, compliance, and continuous improvement activities to ensure safe, punctual, and cost-effective transport for pupils. This role carries a high level of responsibility and pressure. A suitable applicant must be able to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan, review, and optimise pupil routes and vehicle schedules to meet demand and service level requirements.
* Manage relationships with Schools, Local Authorities, monitoring performance and enforce contract standards.
* Ensure all transport activity complies with statutory guidance, health & safety, safeguarding and SEND requirements.
* Coordinate passenger risk assessments, behaviour support plans and escorting arrangements.
* Report and investigate service incidents, complaints and delays; implement corrective actions and maintain accurate records.
* Provide advice and liaison with schools, parents/carers, social care and other stakeholders.
* Mentor and supervise junior transport staff and coordinate cover for absences.
Essential:
* Proven experience in transport operations, route planning or logistics, ideally in home-to-school or passenger transport.
* Strong knowledge of safeguarding, SEND transport needs and relevant statutory guidance.
* Excellent organisational, problem-solving and staff/contractor-management skills.
* Competent with routing/planning software, MS Office (Excel) and transport management systems.
* Good written and verbal communication; able to liaise with parents, schools and other stakeholders.
