Portal Biotech has built the world’s only platform capable of sequencing full-length proteins at the single-molecule level. Using our nanopore technology, we read intact proteins of any size, capturing both sequence and post-translational modifications in a way no other system can. This opens up entirely new ways to understand protein biology, with applications across drug discovery, diagnostics, and biosecurity.
Our technology works and customers are engaging. We’re now focused on scaling, turning breakthrough science into products that deliver real biological insight as we move beyond Series A towards global product launch.
About the Role
We are seeking a Materials, Inventory & Production Interface Lead to manage material control, storage, and readiness within our pilot manufacturing operation. Based at our London site and working closely with cross-functional teams, this is a primarily on-site, hands-on role.
You will be responsible for ensuring that materials are correctly received, stored, controlled, and made available to support manufacturing activities. This role will act as the critical interface between Supply Chain and Manufacturing, ensuring production can run reliably with full traceability and control of materials.
In the early phase, this role will include active participation in manufacturing activities on the production line, ensuring material handling, storage, and usage processes are aligned with real operational conditions.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Ensure material readiness for production, including availability, identification, and status
* Receive and verify incoming materials, ensuring correct items, quantities, and condition
* Manage and organise storage areas, including:
o shelving
o temperature-controlled storage (e.g. fridges)
* Maintain clear material identification and status control (e.g. available, reserved, quarantined)
* Maintain accurate inventory records and stock levels
* Monitor and manage material expiry and shelf-life
* Ensure appropriate storage conditions are maintained and monitoredSupport preparation of materials for production (e.g. line-side supply, kitting)
* Ensure traceability of materials into manufacturing processes
* Implement simple controls to prevent material mix-ups or incorrect usage
* Coordinate with Supply Chain to communicate:
o material requirements
o shortages
o upcoming demand
* Support production readiness by ensuring materials are available and correctly staged
* Participate in manufacturing activities during early pilot phases to ensure alignment between material processes and production needs
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent experience in Supply Chain, Logistics, Materials Management, or a related discipline
* Experience in materials, inventory, or manufacturing support roles
* Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
* Experience working in structured or controlled environments
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
* Good communication skills and ability to work across teams
Desirable
* Experience in regulated industries (e.g. medical devices, biotech, pharmaceuticals)
* Experience working with inventory or warehouse systems
* Experience managing temperature-controlled or sensitive materials
* Experience in pilot or early-stage manufacturing environments
* Familiarity with traceability requirements in manufacturing
* Experience supporting production or manufacturing teams directly
This is a hands‑on role within an early-stage manufacturing team, where you will help build and refine processes based on real operational experience. You will play a key part in establishing robust, scalable systems that will underpin future manufacturing capability.
We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. If you are passionate about building robust manufacturing systems and contributing to the delivery of innovative scientific technologies, we encourage you to apply!
