We are recruiting 5 additional consultants to help meet the growing needs of our local population. This expansion is driven by rising demand, advances in respiratory medicine, and our commitment to delivering outstanding patient care. You will play a key role in a new service model focused on reducing inpatient stays, enhancing targeted outpatient capacity, supporting better discharge, and empowering patient self‑management.


About You

* GMC‑registered with specialist accreditation in Respiratory Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT).

Specialist Pathway Development

* We actively encourage you to develop subspecialty interests and lead innovative pathways in areas such as:
* Asthma and biologics therapy
* Lung cancer and EBUS
* Interstitial lung disease
* Sleep and domiciliary ventilation
* Manage inpatients on two respiratory wards, co‑leading daily handovers, and ward rounds.
* Develop sub‑specialty interests (e.g., biologics for asthma, interstitial lung disease, EBUS, interventional pleural work) in line with departmental needs.
* Deliver respiratory expertise "upstream" via community MDTs and upgraded Advice & Guidance.
* Participate in and help expand our pleural and EBUS clinics and run a daily respiratory hot clinic.
* Take part in the general medical on‑call rota, with potential for a respiratory specialty on‑call.
* Engage in teaching, clinical audit, continuing medical education, and service development.
* Support and supervise junior colleagues, contribute to clinical governance, and risk management.

All staff in each Division are accountable through their Lead Clinician to the Associate Medical Director, who has overall responsibility for the services within the Division. Consultants are key members of the Trust and are accountable and responsible for leading changes to services to improve patient experience.


Responsibilities

* Support the Clinical Lead in policy and strategy development as a senior member of the Division Management Team.
* Contribute to leading and developing services in collaboration with the Clinical Lead and Associate Medical Director and in line with the Trust's business plans.
* Work in partnership with colleagues in other departments and Divisions within the Trust.
* Work within the Trust's framework for Clinical Governance and Risk, including the development of clinical policies.
* Undertake direct supervision of junior colleagues and participate in departmental/trust wide teaching programmes.
* Undertake investigations and report writing for incidents, and participate in clinical risk management.
* Embrace a patient‑focussed precision medicine style of practice to ensure efficient flow of patient care through the hospital.

Candidates are responsible for covering the cost of their own DBS check if required: £21.50 for a Standard DBS check, recoverable from the first pay, or £49.50 for an Enhanced DBS check, divided and recoverable over the initial two pay periods. Payment for DBS checks for bank posts must be settled prior to commencement. Apprentices are exempt from DBS payment.
