We have an exciting opportunity to join us as Support Worker to support our visually impaired staff member to carry out their duties.
What will be expected from me?
The purpose of this role is to provide support and assistance to enable the Senior Rehabilitation Officer (SRO) to carry out their duties. To work on a one-to-one basis providing sighted support.
What I might be doing?
1. You will accompany the SRO on visits to service users homes in connection with work and to accompany to meetings within the Wakefield Council District and other areas as necessary.
2. You will support the SRO with administrative tasks in the office, support visiting clients to deliver rehabilitation services, such as assessing needs under the Care Act, low vision assessments, daily living skills and orientation and mobility training.
3. You will act as a sighted guide in unfamiliar indoor, outdoor or cluttered environments as required.
Working hours:
4. Wednesday 13.00-17.00
5. Thursday 08.30 – 17.00 (1 hour lunch)
6. Friday 08.30 – 16.30 (1 hour lunch)
Requirements:
7. This role is a self-employed position, and the individual will be responsible for paying their own Income Tax, National Insurance, and pension contributions.
8. Experience of working with visually impaired people is desirable however non-essential.
9. Excellent IT skills and experience of Microsoft Office packages.
10. Qualifications in Maths and English Language (GCSE grade C or above or equivalent)

11. Hold a valid driving licence and have access to a car with valid business insurance.
