Banana Moon Day Nursery Barnstaple is a warm, welcoming and child-centred nursery providing high-quality care and education for children aged 0–5 years. We are proud to prepare fresh, nutritious meals on site, supporting children’s health, wellbeing and development every day. We are now looking to appoint a Kitchen Assistant to support our full-time Nursery Cook and help maintain our high standards of food preparation, hygiene and safety. As Kitchen Assistant, you will work alongside the Nursery Cook to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery kitchen. You will help prepare meals and snacks, maintain excellent hygiene standards, and support the delivery of safe, healthy food for all children, including those with dietary requirements and allergies. This is an important support role within our nursery team and is ideal for someone reliable, organised and happy working in a busy childcare environment. - Support the Nursery Cook with food preparation in line with Banana Moon seasonal recipes - Assist with serving meals and snacks safely and at the correct temperature - Maintain a clean, hygienic and well-organised kitchen, following cleaning schedules - Wash, sanitise and store crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment correctly - Support allergen management procedures, including preventing cross-contamination - Assist with stock rotation, labelling and storage of food items - Help with the safe storage and disposal of kitchen waste - Follow all Food Safety, Health & Safety and nursery policies and procedures at all times - Work cooperatively with nursery staff to support daily routines where required Requirements •A positive, dependable and flexible team player •Experience in a kitchen or catering environment is desirable but not essential •A good understanding of cleanliness, hygiene and food safety, or willingness to learn •Ability to follow procedures accurately, particularly around allergies and safety •A genuine interest in supporting children’s wellbeing in a nursery setting •Willingness to undertake required training •Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one) Benefits • A friendly and supportive working environment • Flexible part-time hours (12–20 hours per week) • Training and development opportunities • The chance to work as part of a caring, professional nursery team • Nursery staff benefits (including childcare discount, where applicable)
