Overview
Forget Me Not Childrens Hospice is seeking professionals from a range of therapeutic disciplines to support families affected by life-shortening conditions, bereavement, grief and loss, and palliative care. An accredited qualification in trauma therapy (e.g., compassion-focused therapy, EMDR) with deep knowledge of trauma is required. Roles may be delivered at the hospice, in a local community space, or in your own designated therapy space where available. You may have your own practice or be currently working in the NHS or another charitable organisation and are looking to expand your understanding of children’s hospice care.
Hours are ad hoc per practitioner availability; duties may be carried out at the Russell House, Huddersfield, or your own designated therapy space.
Job responsibilities
* Carry out trauma‑informed assessments on individuals and families, outlining emotional, social, practical, environmental needs and stressors, family dynamics, strengths and coping strategies.
* Complete risk assessments around harm to self and suicide risk.
* Contract with the client to ensure clarity around confidentiality and boundaries; formulate and support plans based on assessed need.
* Deliver therapeutic interventions using counselling skills and knowledge of theories of trauma, adversity, bereavement and loss.
* Provide individuals with skills and interventions to process trauma; empower families and individuals to make their own decisions.
* Maintain clear, proactive communication within the multidisciplinary family support team and with care staff, income generation teams, and external agencies (e.g., social services, education, GP, children’s community nursing, occupational therapists, perinatal mental health teams, hospital consultants, voluntary agencies).
* Maintain accurate, contemporaneous records in line with legal requirements and professional standards.
* Implement outcome measures (PHQ-9, SDQ, AAG, Impact of Events Scale) and manage own caseload with prioritisation and time management.
* Participate in supervision, maintain professional registration, and comply with professional standards of conduct, ethics and safeguarding guidelines (LSCB).
* Engage in ongoing professional development and annual appraisal; stay up-to-date with developments in children’s palliative care, bereavement, perinatal mental health and trauma.
* Location: Russell House, Huddersfield, or your own designated therapy space; Hours: ad hoc as per practitioner availability; Responsible to: Family Services Manager.

Job Description
Role summary

Person Specification
DBS Essential: DBS required (covered by us)
Qualifications Essential: Recognised professional counselling or psychotherapy qualification; Membership of BACP/NCS or other appropriate body. Desirable: EMDR training/qualification; specific grief and loss training; postgraduate qualifications in trauma, psychotherapy, counselling.
Experience Essential: Minimum 2 years post‑registration experience of working with individuals who have experienced trauma and loss; qualified in trauma therapy (EMDR, CBT, Compassion Focused Therapies); experience supporting adults affected by pregnancy, baby and child bereavement; experience providing therapeutic support to individuals; experience in multidisciplinary settings; strong psychosocial assessment skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; empathy; time and caseload management; computer literacy; team player; flexibility; decision‑making ability; safeguarding knowledge. Desirable: Knowledge of children’s hospice services and philosophy; knowledge of perinatal mental health; postgraduate trauma/psychotherapy qualifications.
