Job Title: Junior Sales Engineer

Department: Innovation & Development

Reports to: Innovation & Development Manager

Company Background

Launched in late 1998, the team at Sports Labs made a commitment to become the best sports surfaces testing company in the United Kingdom. Over 25 years later, they have achieved this and so much more! From their humble beginnings in their first office in Glasgow, the company has seen an enormous period of growth – they now have state of the art facilities across the world including their specialised lab facility in Livingston.

As the leading international experts in sports surface testing and development, their expertise spans field, track and court testing for stadiums of the elite professional clubs to local authorities' facilities and private community facilities. Their long and exciting list of clients includes FIFA, the International Hockey Federation, ECB, World Rugby, and the International Tennis Federation.

Teams specialise in areas such as Field testing, Lab-based testing (including Product Certification, Product Evaluation & Forensic studies of materials and constituents), Consultancy (design, procurement, tendering and project management of new or refurbished sports facilities), and Innovation & Development.

Core Function

In this exciting and varied position, you will work as part of the Innovation & Development team, primarily working in the Equipment Sales sister company, Sports Test Equip Ltd. This team specialises in equipment design, procurement, manufacture and sale of specialist sports surface testing apparatus to clients around the world.

There is a great opportunity to work with current equipment offering (www.sportstestequip.com), with significant opportunities to improve efficiencies in manufacture, product design and inventory management. On a semi-regular basis, new products are added to the offerings and thus require refinement into a finished article.

Principal Responsibilities

- Fulfil customer orders from initial quotation through to final dispatch, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.

- Manage inventory for both make-to-stock and bespoke make-to-order items, including replenishment and forward planning.

- Oversee procurement of raw materials and standard components, maintaining strong supplier relationships and ensuring continuity of supply.

- Contribute to continuous product improvement through design initiatives, including new product development and design for manufacture.

- Take ownership of newly developed wireless equipment and companion mobile application, overseeing procurement, assembly, testing, and ongoing product development to ensure reliable performance and continuous improvement.

- Handle international shipping requirements, including customs and export documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

- Support the Innovation and Development team on an ad-hoc basis, contributing to various research projects as required.

- Participate in occasional travel to suppliers, customers, or other business sites when necessary.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a motivated and proactive individual with a self-starter attitude and a strong sense of ownership over their work. The ideal candidate will be highly organised, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously, and able to prioritise effectively to ensure deadlines are consistently met. They will have strong verbal and written communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and a willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate should have reasonable experience in CAD design and be confident using Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Word and Excel. This role would be particularly well-suited to a graduate design engineer looking to gain broad experience across operations, design, and product development within an innovative and dynamic team. Some experience with basic electronic components and processes (i.e. soldering) would be beneficial.

The role promises a high level of autonomy and offers the successful candidate the opportunity to take the next steps in their graduate career in a supportive, innovative environment with the clear potential for career advancement and longevity.

Position Details

This is a full-time, on-site position based at our headquarters in Livingston, Scotland. Core working hours are 39 hours per week, typically 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Fridays, with some flexibility where required.
