About the Role
Applications are invited for a Substantive Consultant post in Obstetrics & Gynaecology with specialist interest in Fetal medicine.
This is a prime opportunity for a consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with a large maternity unit and an average 5,400 births per year.
Currently our fetal medicine department has 2 substantive consultants, sonographers, FASP coordinator, antenatal screening midwife, specialist fetal medicine midwife and perinatal palliative practitioner. We have 8 scanning rooms with up-to-date scanning equipment including GE scanners and viewpoint reporting system.
Applicants are expected to have specialist training in fetal medicine either through ATSM/SITM route or equivalent such as PG certification. Candidates are also expected to have experience in high‑risk pregnancy care including specialist small baby clinic and enhanced antenatal care for women with previous pregnancy loss and still birth.
This job is most suitable for candidates with fetal medicine interest and experience. Applications are also welcome from candidates who have other skills/special interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, teaching and leadership which compliment the department's needs.
The successful candidate will become one of the fetal medicine team and contribute to specialist clinics, including fetal medicine, small baby and multiple pregnancy care clinics, providing holistic care for parents and families with fetal abnormalities.
The post holder will contribute to weekly fetal medicine MDT meetings, work with the wider MDT and liaise with tertiary Centre (Leeds Teaching Hospital) for ongoing care. The post holder is expected to contribute to departmental teaching and training, as well as monthly fetal medicine governance meetings.
The department is keen to continue its journey in enhancing up‑skilling and improving subspecialist obstetrics services and will welcome experience and enthusiasm.

On‑call Commitment
The post includes a non‑resident on‑call element for Obstetrics. There is a consultant on‑call for Obstetrics and another consultant on‑call for Gynaecology 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The on‑call commitment will include cover for Obstetrics and for acute Gynaecology (for those who take up gynaecology). The incumbent will join the existing on‑call consultants on a 1:21 rota for labour ward cover and a 1:17 rota for Gynaecology.
Qualifications and Registration
Applications will be welcomed from all suitably qualified Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of acquiring CCT on the date of interview.
Applicants must either have specialist training in fetal medicine via ATSM/SITM route or an equivalent pathway such as PG certification.
Successful applicants will be expected to contribute to teaching programmes. There is also a strong emphasis on clinical research and a high‑calibre research group within the unit.
