Clinical Lead Managed Service Network (MSN) for Functional Disorders

We are delighted to share this exciting opportunity to shape a new approach to support people with functional disorders in Grampian. Thanks to funding from the NHS Grampian Charity, we will be establishing and evaluating a Managed Service Network (MSN) model over the next two years. A significant amount of work has already been undertaken to identify the need for the service and secure funding, and we are now ready to begin developing.

Initial development work undertaken in Grampian can be found here: Functional Disorder Future Health and Wellbeing.

Functional Disorder is a term used to describe health conditions with persistent physical symptoms and impairment which cannot be wholly explained, at this time, by any known disease or physical cause. There continues to be emerging evidence and research on the aetiology of functional disorders. Symptoms vary in severity and complexity causing debilitating problems, including increased physical disability, reduced ability to work, psychological distress and poor quality of life. Functional Disorders span across all ages, genders and demographics.

If you would be interested in leading this project going forward, then please read on...

We have two clinical lead opportunities one secondary care based and one primary care based working as a team to lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of the network and its services.

Both roles are fixed term (24 months), offering one day per week and are open to all senior staff with a clinical background be that medical, nursing, psychology or allied health professional (AHP). Salary will be commensurate with your current grade.

* Do you have the vision, drive and enthusiasm to support the development and implementation of pathways, education and self-management resources to improve both patient and professional experience of clinical care in Grampian?
* Are you passionate about person-centred care and designing services with people?
* Do you want to be part of a different approach to how we work across the whole system to better support people with functional disorders?

These part time roles present a unique opportunity to work across sectors and services to shape and influence how we work better together to develop person-centred care that reflects local and national clinical strategy. As with all posts funded by NHS Grampian Charity, the successful candidate must be prepared to participate in publicity to discuss the role and the difference made by the Grant.

The team will be supported by a project structure through NHS Grampian’s Planning, Innovation and Programmes Directorate, and the successful candidate will have access to the support and expertise of colleagues experienced in service planning and redesign, improvement methodology and project management.

We welcome informal contact from prospective candidates. Please contact Jenna Young, Planning Manager (jenna.young3@nhs.scot) for an initial conversation.

Interviews for this post will take place on 2nd December 2025.

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.
