Role Purpose The EYFS Teaching Assistant will support children aged 3–5 in Nursery and Reception. This involves assisting teachers with both adult-led and child-initiated activities, and providing one-to-one or small group support for children with additional needs. Supporting children with SEN and EAL is a key responsibility. You will help children engage with the curriculum, develop social and emotional skills, and build independence in a structured, inclusive environment. Key Responsibilities Support the delivery of EYFS curriculum through play-based and structured learning activities Assist with phonics, early literacy, numeracy, and creative development Provide targeted support for pupils with SEN, EAL, or social-emotional challenges Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and self-regulation Support classroom routines, transitions, snack time, and outdoor learning Observe, assess, and record children’s progress in line with EYFS objectives Collaborate effectively with teachers, SENCO, external specialists, and parents Maintain safeguarding, health, and safety standards at all times Support the emotional wellbeing and social development of all children The Ideal Candidate The school seeks a patient, nurturing, and reliable EYFS Teaching Assistant with: Experience in EYFS or early years settings Knowledge of EYFS framework and child development principles Experience or interest in supporting SEN and inclusive education Calm, empathetic, and consistent approach Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills Flexibility and resilience in a busy, diverse classroom environment Training and Development EYFS induction and ongoing CPD SEN and inclusion training, including autism awareness Behaviour management and emotional wellbeing strategies Safeguarding and child protection updates Progression pathways exist to SEN TA, HLTA, or classroom teaching roles.
