A highly regarded, fast-growing consultancy working across the social housing and public sector is seeking an experienced Senior Building Surveyor to play a key leadership role within its expanding surveying division.
The organisation specialises in safer, more sustainable homes through expert retrofit and surveying, supporting housing providers with compliance, asset improvement, and long-term property performance. The Role
You will take responsibility for leading and motivating surveying teams delivering bulk housing surveys, ensuring programmes are delivered efficiently, consistently, and to a high technical standard.
A key focus will be on damp and mould investigations, housing condition surveys, and quality assurance of fieldwork outputs, alongside the planning and coordination of survey resources across multiple programmes.
You will act as a central figure in ensuring surveying activity is well organised, well executed, and continuously improving.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Coordination
Lead, motivate and support teams of building surveyors delivering bulk surveying programmes
Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performance team culture
Coordinate day-to-day surveying activity across multiple projects and regions
Provide practical guidance and technical support to surveyors in the field
Programme Delivery & Planning
Plan and organise bulk surveying programmes in line with client requirements
Manage resource allocation and workforce planning to ensure efficient delivery
Monitor progress, output and productivity across active survey programmes
Ensure timely completion of surveys and reporting outputs
Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance
Oversee quality of building surveys, with a strong focus on consistency and accuracy
Audit survey outputs and drive improvements in reporting standards
Provide oversight of damp, mould and building pathology assessments
Ensure survey work aligns with client standards and compliance expectations
Stakeholder Engagement
Build strong relationships with internal teams and external clients
Act as a key point of contact for programme delivery discussions
Communicate clearly and confidently with housing providers and stakeholders
Support resolution of technical and delivery-related issues
About You
You will be a highly experienced surveying professional with strong practical knowledge of housing condition surveying and a natural ability to lead people and coordinate delivery.
Essential Experience
Strong background in building surveying within social housing or residential sectors
Proven experience delivering or managing bulk surveying programmes
Excellent understanding of damp, mould, condensation and housing defects
Experience in housing condition surveys and/or disrepair-related work
Demonstrable ability to lead, coordinate and motivate teams
Core Skills
Strong organisational and programme coordination capability
High standards of quality assurance and attention to detail
Confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a structured, fast-paced delivery environment
Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving
Qualifications & Training (Flexible Approach)
Formal chartership is not essential. What matters most is experience and capability.
However, relevant background may include:
Building surveying or construction-related qualification (degree or equivalent experience)
Damp, mould or building pathology training (e.g. PCA-related courses)
Knowledge of HHSRS and housing standards
CPD in housing disrepair, ventilation, condensation or remedial diagnostics
