Band 5 Occupational Therapist – Acute Stroke Unit (Static Post)

The closing date is 30 March 2026

Band: 5

Full time – 22.5 hours per week – Monday – Friday (plus weekend and Bank Holiday roster).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team on the Acute Stroke Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate strong teamworking skills, thrive in the fast‑paced nature of the acute setting, and have a genuine interest in stroke care and rehabilitation. As this is a static post, it offers an excellent opportunity for candidates wishing to consolidate and develop their core skills in stroke rehabilitation within a supportive and specialist environment. You need to be an HCPC registered Occupational Therapist. Interviews will be face to face.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload, carrying out comprehensive assessments and delivering evidence‑based, patient‑centred Occupational Therapy interventions. You will demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. You will be supported both formally and informally by senior staff and the wider team. We ensure regular clinical supervision, one‑to‑one meetings and have a robust appraisal process and preceptorship programme. The service is passionate about research and service development, implementing a local in‑service training schedule and addressing the particular learning and development needs of staff within the team. Dedicated time for individual continuous professional development is also provided. If you are motivated and passionate about providing high quality care to patients and want to join an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking team we would love to hear from you.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023‑2030). We have four primary goals:

* high‑quality care for all
* being a great place to work
* partnerships for impact
* research and education excellence

And we will embed health equity in all we do – taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

* we are compassionate
* we are proud
* we are inclusive
* we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

Job responsibilities

Carrying out comprehensive assessments of patients with a range of impairments resulting from stroke.

Planning and delivering evidence‑based, patient‑centred Occupational Therapy interventions to promote functional recovery and independence.

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to contribute to goal setting, rehabilitation planning and discharge decision‑making.

Supporting patients and their families by providing education, equipment advice and onward referral where appropriate.

Liaising with community and rehabilitation services to ensure safe and timely discharges and continuity of care.

Maintaining accurate and timely documentation in line with professional and trust standards.

Participating in regular supervision, in‑service training, peer support and service development initiatives.

Contributing to audits, quality improvement projects and the ongoing evaluation of therapy services on the unit.

* Carry out all professional duties in accordance with the code of professional conduct as issued by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists.
