An exciting opportunity has arisen at Woking and SamBeare Hospice for an experienced and compassionate Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join our friendly therapy team, delivering and developing palliative care therapy services for people facing progressive and life limiting conditions across our catchment area in North West Surrey.

Our therapy team consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants. We work closely with a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists, Palliative Care doctors, our Hospice at Home team, Counsellors and Complimentary Therapists in our Wellbeing Centre. The locations we see patients in are varied and this role includes working across inpatient, outpatient and community services. The ability to travel in your own car to visit patients at home is essential.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Band 7 Occupational Therapist who is patient focused and passionate about palliative care. This is an exciting opportunity to help develop and improve Occupational Therapy services within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. The post holder will provide expert assessment, treatment and management of patients with complex needs. Ideally you will have experience in Oncology, Respiratory or Palliative care or other transferrable skills that can be utilized.


Main duties of the job

Inreturn for your skills, you can expect to join a caring multidisciplinary team working in a beautiful Hospice in the heart of North West Surrey. Our vision is to enable all of those with life-limiting illnesses to live life to the full and to equip them to die with choice and dignity.

This is a part-time role (22.5 hours per week).


Job responsibilities

To provide a high standard of individualised patient-centred care to patients with a progressing and life limiting illness. You will need experience in a wide range of core Occupational Therapy skills as well as high level clinical reasoning and communication skills.

To hold clinical responsibility for autonomously managing a complex patient caseload, undertaking appropriate and comprehensive specialist OT assessments and interventions for patients with life limiting conditions.

To work flexibly and be accountable for efficient time management and prioritisation across community, inpatient and wellbeing services offered to patients of Woking and Sam Beare Hospice.

To work independently and as part of the wider Hospice team applying clinical skills in holistic assessment of needs, treatment planning, goal setting, intervention and evaluation (use of outcome measures); including individual and group oriented approaches.

To demonstrate excellent communication skills and to be able to adapt communication style to the situation, with the ability to communicate sensitive and challenging information effectively and with empathy.

To contribute to the evaluation and continued development of the Therapies Service in line with departmental and organisational objectives.


Person Specification


Experience

* Significant clinical experience of working across a range of settings and specialities, e.g. respiratory, oncology, neurology, orthopaedic, medical.
* Experience working at Band 7 level.
* Experience of working in a community setting, including as a lone worker.
* Experience of Service Development, e.g. working on projects.
* Evidence of working within MDTs dealing with complex neurological, respiratory and cancer cases.
* Experience of supervising others e.g. junior staff.
* Experience of acute oncology or palliative care.
* Experience of working in an NHS or charity setting.


Qualifications

* Degree in Occupational Therapy and minimum of 5 years post registration.
* Current Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registration.
* Membership of RCOT.
* Evidence of further study and/or experience in long term conditions or palliative care.
* Leadership Training.
* Member of RCOT specialist section.
* Advanced Communication Skills training.
