Health Care Support Worker

We are seeking caring, motivated & compassionate individuals to join our Dementia Assessment Unit within the Specialist Older People\'s Inpatient Services. This is a rewarding opportunity to support older adults living with dementia who require specialist assessment, therapeutic input & person-centred care.
You will work under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals to deliver safe, high-quality, person-centred care. You will play a vital role in supporting patients during a period of assessment, helping them feel safe, valued & understood at a time that can be confusing or distressing.
You will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team committed to promoting dignity, independence & wellbeing for every individual in our care.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person assessment centre on 1st April 2026 at the Dementia Assessment Unit, Lynfield Mount Hospital.

Main duties of the job
Main Duties & Responsibilities As a Health Care Support Worker in Specialist Older People\'s Inpatient Services, you\'ll deliver compassionate, person-centred care.
Personal Care Assist with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and emotional wellbeing while promoting dignity and independence.
Clinical Support Help with observations, monitor wellbeing, report changes, support emergencies and therapeutic interventions, and maintain a calm, safe environment.
End-of-Life Care Provide dignified support, work with families and the team to ensure comfort and respect.
Admissions & Discharges Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and accurate documentation.
Communication & Documentation Engage with patients, families, and colleagues professionally; record information promptly.
Teamwork & Patient Engagement Collaborate with staff, support activities and therapeutic sessions, encourage engagement.
Safety & Flexibility Promote safety, follow safeguarding policies, report concerns, and work across wards as needed.
About You Compassionate, adaptable, calm under pressure, good communicator, team-oriented, willing to learn. Care experience helpful but not essential--full training provided.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ2 training or equivalent experience.
* NVQ 3 or above in care or modules relevant to the area.
* Experience of the speciality area (Dementia)
Experience
* Working in a caring environment (professionally or at home)
* Experience of dealing with the public.
* Able to evidence working in a caring environment or worked in a voluntary position.
Skills
* Effective patient/client care skills.
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Motivation to meet the patients needs for self and others
* Ability to demonstrate confidentiality and trustworthiness and remain calm in highly charged situations.
* Ability to juggle many priorities at one time, whilst remaining calm
