Step into a role where you’ll lead major projects and joint ventures that shape the future of environmental performance. You’ll drive meaningful impact by ensuring strong environmental protection while pushing for real enhancement across every project. Working closely with teams at all levels, you’ll help align customer expectations, regulatory standards, and internal goals to elevate how the business delivers against its sustainability commitments.
As the Environmental Manager, you’ll champion a culture of continual improvement and embed a holistic approach to sustainability throughout the organisation. You’ll provide expert guidance, influence key decisions, and support the changes needed to meet ambitious project and business objectives while taking on additional responsibilities that support broader company goals.
How You’ll Make an Impact
4. Manage environmental objectives, targets, and KPIs across projects to drive strong business performance. Contribute to internal, customer, and industry groups to influence standards and provide thought leadership that supports ongoing environmental improvement.
5. Regularly review environmental legislation, assess impacts on the business, and recommend updates to processes and policies. Support the Head of Environment in running the Environmental Change Control Board to maintain and develop the certified management system.
6. Work closely with senior management and project teams to shape the organisation’s approach to Environment and Sustainability. Continuously review project environmental resources to ensure capability meets business and customer needs, supporting recruitment, training, and development where required.
7. Act as an escalation point for environmental matters, liaising with regulators and providing specialist expertise. Ensure all project environmental records are maintained accurately and reported on time using relevant business systems.
8. Lead or support investigations into environmental incidents and participate in management reviews. Make sure all internal and external reporting is completed promptly and to the required standard, promoting a culture of continuous improvement across teams and projects.
9. Provide local leadership to environmental specialists and help strengthen environmental awareness and training across the wider business. Support the Head of Environment with budget reviews and, when required, deliver direct project support, fulfilling the responsibilities of an Environmental Advisor.
What You Bring
10. Professional membership (ISEP or equivalent) with strong technical competence, supported by a relevant degree and extensive operational experience in complex engineering or construction environments.
11. Proven experience working with regulatory bodies, including the full lifecycle management of environmental permits and licences.
12. Strong auditing capability, including ISO 14001 Internal/Lead Auditor, with bonus experience in ISO 50001 or working with certification bodies.
