Purpose of The Role
1. Due to the firm's continued growth and success, we are looking to hire an experienced Compliance Assurance Auditor to assist with driving the firm's Internal Compliance Audit process and schedule.
2. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Compliance Assurance or legal professional to support the business through the audit of fee earning teams to ensure that legal, regulatory, and internal guidelines are adhered to as well as assisting the Quality Manager in managing the firm's compliance with ISO9001.
3. As Compliance Assurance Auditor, you'll lead audits across all sectors of the firm's legal provision. Collaborating with partners, business leaders, and lawyers you'll ensure that the firm remains compliant with its regulations, identifying risk and opportunities across the business, presenting these to practice leaders, and following any raised actions to conclusion.
The Team
4. As the Compliance Assurance Auditor, you'll be part of the Office of the General Counsel (OGC), reporting to the Quality Manager. Our OGC team, comprises of both lawyers and other professionals, it manages the firm's internal legal functions, regulatory compliance, and legal risk management.
5. The OGC team has a number of sub-teams that ensure compliance across the Firm with legal and regulatory requirements, manage the onboarding of new clients and matters, handle claims and complaints and negotiate the terms that govern key client relationships. The team is also involved in strategic activity and provides support to the firm's board.
6. As Compliance Assurance Auditor, you will work alongside our existing sub-teams to ensure that risk identified is fed into the audit process to provide the clearest picture of the behaviours of audited teams to the firm.
What to Expect in This Role
In this role you will:
7. Lead timely, focused, and accurate audits of all legal teams within the AG business as directed by the Compliance Assurance schedule.
8. Deliver clear and comprehensive audit reports to business leaders, outlining current compliance levels, identifying areas of risk, and recommending actionable improvements.
9. Monitor and follow up on assigned actions, ensuring completion by auditees, supervisors, and department leaders within agreed timelines.
10. Support the Quality Manager in preparing for and participating in ISO 9001 and other external audits that certify the firm's compliance.
11. Collaborate with the wider OGC team, advising on firm policies, best practices, and responding to queries from clients, auditors, and other stakeholders.
12. Contribute to the development of a strong risk management culture across the firm, promoting awareness and continuous improvement.
Your Areas of Knowledge and Expertise
To be successful in this role, you will:
13. Bring proven experience of working in the legal sector, either as a Fee Earner or in a Compliance/Audit capacity, with a strong understanding of the regulatory frameworks that govern legal practices.
14. Ideally possess working knowledge of ISO 9001 standards, including experience auditing or operating within these frameworks, enabling you to guide teams in maintaining compliance.
15. Be experienced providing high-level feedback and recommendations, including formal requests for action and follow-through to ensure completion and accountability.
16. Build strong, collaborative relationships across diverse business units and seniority levels—including OGC, HR, Facilities, Knowledge Lawyers, IT, and Finance—to drive results.
17. Adopt a consultative and detail-oriented approach, championing compliance and leading change initiatives across the firm.
