We’re looking for an experienced Senior Technician to play a key role in our Wood, Digital, and Metals Fabrication facility. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your technical expertise and support innovative projects in a dynamic environment.
About the role
As a key member of our team, you’ll help drive the development of wood manufacturing and production within our high-profile Wood, Digital, and Metal Fabrication Facility in the Babbage Building.
In this role, you will:
* Operate and maintain our state-of-the-art wood fabrication area
* Collaborate closely with faculty, external partners, and university colleagues
* Support innovation and explore emerging technologies, including generative AI applications
Your attention to detail, expertise in Health & Safety within a HE environment, and commitment to excellence will ensure an outstanding student experience and help shape a forward-thinking department.

What we’re looking for
We are actively seeking candidates from diverse technical backgrounds.
Essential:
* Qualifications: HND, a Degree, NVQ4, or similar
* Experience:
o Woodwork & Machining: Planer thicknesser,Dimension saw, Router table, Widebelt sander, Wood lathe
o Hand Tools & Processes: Surfacing, Cutting, Joining, Shaping wood and wood composite materials
o Health and Safety and Risk Assessment
* Skills:
o Ability to work independently and collaboratively
o Strong communication and mentoring skills
o Commitment to creating a supportive team environment
Desirable:
* CAD design (various packages).
* 3D printing (multiple formats).
* CNC operation on 2D/3D machines (small, medium, large) for wood, metal, and plastic.
