Position: O&M Portfolio Manager
Reports to: Director of Engineering
Location: Unit 1A Tweed Road, Clevedon BS21 6RR Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Role Overview
The Solar O&M Portfolio Manager is accountable for the commercial and technical performance of an allocated portfolio of service clients and renewable energy assets.
The role focuses on client retention, service delivery oversight, risk management, and portfolio profitability.
This is not a traditional line management position. Instead, the Portfolio Manager operates as the accountable owner of client outcomes and commercial performance, coordinating shared operational resources to deliver against agreed service levels and targets.
The O&M function operates on a portfolio-based structure designed to scale as the service portfolio grows.
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Delivery & Oversight
* Own the operational performance of an allocated portfolio of clients and assets & Develop and maintain portfolio service plans covering PPM, reactive maintenance, monitoring, cleaning, and associated works.
* Ensure all works delivered within the portfolio comply with contractual obligations, company standards, and industry regulations & Monitor PV system portals and alerts across the allocated portfolio and proactively manage performance issues.
* Specify, prioritise and oversee ad hoc callouts, warranty works, and fault resolution within the portfolio & Monitor performance against SLAs and KPIs, taking corrective action where necessary.
Customer & Stakeholder Management
* Act as the primary point of contact for service clients & Ensure excellent levels of customer service, including timely communication, professional reporting, and clear issue resolution.
* Support account management and renewals of service contracts & Provide technical and service-related advice to clients, both pre- and post-contract.
* Hold full accountability for client satisfaction, retention, and contract renewals within the allocated portfolio.
Resource Coordination
* Coordinate internal engineers and approved contractors to deliver works across the portfolio & Clearly define scope, technical requirements, and commercial parameters for assigned jobs.
* Escalate capacity constraints or systemic issues through the Engineering leadership structure & Contribute to maintaining a safe and compliant working culture across all assigned works.
Financial & Commercial Management
* Hold accountability for portfolio turnover, margin, and profitability targets & Control portfolio costs and resource allocation to protect and improve gross margin.
* Identify opportunities for upselling service levels or additional works & Contribute to tendering and pricing strategies for new service contracts.
* Produce quotations and proposals for additional works, contract enhancements, and remedial projects & Contribute to annual forecasting and pipeline development for the service portfolio.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
* Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant standards within the allocated portfolios & Maintain accurate service records and reporting.
* Drive continuous improvement initiatives across service processes and customer care & Stay up to date with industry regulations and renewable energy technologies.
* Technical Provision & Conduct technical evaluations and solution design reviews for works within the portfolio
* Work with the procurement manager and manufacturer technical resources to order and supply the equipment required in solutions
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven experience in a service management role, preferably within renewable energy, M&E, or facilities management & Strong commercial judgement and ability to balance technical and financial priorities across multiple client accounts.Excellent customer service and client-facing communication skills.
* Commercial awareness and experience managing budgets or service contracts & Good knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, and related renewable technologies.
* Strong organisational and scheduling ability & Experience managing client portfolios or service contracts with commercial accountability.
* Ability to manage competing operational priorities without direct line management authority.
Desirable
* IOSH / NEBOSH or equivalent H&S qualification & Experience with ISO management systems (9001, 14001, 45001).
* Familiarity with Zoho or similar CRM/ERP systems & Familiarity with monitoring and SCADA systems
* Experience with producing quotations and customer proposals
* Electrical or renewable energy technical qualifications (e.g., NVQ, City & Guilds) & Electrical qualification or in-depth knowledge of standards such as 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, RC62 fire safety protocols, SolarEnergyUK Rooftop O&M Guidelines, and more besides
