About the Role
About Us: Oakfield Short Stay School is Leicestershire’s provision for school aged children who have been permanently excluded or are at risk of permanent exclusion from school. We have expanded the age range of Oakfield School and as a result we are recruiting staff, therefore, you will be part of a vital team in an exciting period of development, working with us to meet the needs of children and young people between the ages of 5 and 16 who struggle to manage in mainstream and need a different offer of education to secure their successful next steps.
Role Overview: This role is to join our Premises Team to ensure our sites are compliant and enable us to deliver the education to pupils. The role would suit an experienced and suitably qualified person who has experience working within schools or maintained buildings, particularly within the Special Education sector. Many of our young people present with challenging behaviour, and we are looking for someone who can demonstrate strong empathy and ability to intrinsically connect with pupils with complex SEMH needs and lead in delivering a service that enables flexible data systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead and Inspire: May be required to manage a team of cleaning staff, undertaking maintenance, repairs and cleaning of the building and grounds
2. Collaborate with Agencies: To undertake a long term programme of general maintenance, work as agreed with the Site Manager to ensure that the school is maintained in a state of good repair on a cost effective basis in accordance with the Schools Development Plan.
3. Accountability: To undertake minor repairs and maintenance on an ‘as and when necessary basis to enable the school to be maintained in a state of good repair and lessons and other activities to proceed with minimum disruption
4. Promote Inclusion: Demonstrate a commitment to inclusion, ensuring all pupils and staff members feel valued and supported.

About You
To apply for this post, you must be / have:
10. Good level of literacy and numeracy.
11. Experience in Craft skills,. plumber, electrician and decorating or previous experience in a caretaking role including repairs and maintenance.
12. An ability to undertake risk assessments in relation to premises function.
13. Experience liaising with external contractors including negotiating prices for small jobs.
14. An understanding of Health & Safety and security issues.
15. Ability to undertake a range of basic repairs and maintenance tasks related to equipment and materials etc used in design classrooms.
