PERMANENT POSITIONS - APPLE ORCHARD DEVELOPMENT – CANTERBURY
Exciting opportunity to be part of a new large scale orchard development in Canterbury.
– Canterbury Based – Pendarves (20mins NE from Ashburton)
FarmRight Ltd operates as Portfolio Investment Manager for the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and oversees more than 18,400 hectares of farm and orchard land across the country. At FarmRight, we take a sustainable, long-term view, investing in our people and in opportunities that provide win-win outcomes for all involved. Since 2017, FarmRight has expanded into viticulture and horticulture management, continuing to analyze and acquire commercial rural properties, which increases our operational and management needs.
An exciting opportunity has arisen with our recent acquisition of dairy land in Pendarves (20 mins NE from Ashburton), which is being converted into a 250 ha Rockit and Joli Apple orchard, utilizing modern structures, innovative technology, and systems to enhance productivity and sustainability.
As onsite development scales up, the need for additional labor is increasing.
PERMANENT POSITIONS WE ARE RECRUITING FOR NOW:
* Machinery Operators: Ideally, you will have transferable skills and experience operating machinery used in planting, irrigation, and general agricultural activities. During the development phase, these roles involve installing apple infrastructure such as trellis, irrigation, and hail netting.
* Supervisors: We seek individuals with practical agricultural experience (or similar) to supervise and support a team during orchard development, overseeing activities like structure, irrigation, and hail netting installation, ensuring accuracy and efficiency. Post-development, these roles will shift to supervising orchard operations and guiding seasonal work.
* General Orchard/Labouring Hands: Reliable and hardworking individuals to assist with planting, irrigation, and other development tasks. Experience is desirable but transferable from similar environments. These roles support the team through development and production phases, offering opportunities to learn and grow.
DEVELOPMENT DUTIES (but not limited to):
* Installation of orchard trellis structures, including cabling and wiring.
* Training trees to trellis structures.
* Planting trees at specified depths and spacings.
* Operating orchard machinery such as hydraladas, tractors, and diggers (training provided).
* Following health and safety standards.
* Performing other reasonable duties as instructed by supervisors and management.
