Job Title: Business Analyst - Data Centre - Energy Efficiency Location: Barnsley or Sheffield (3 days on site a week) Salary/Rate: £290 - £330 per day INSIDE IR35 Start Date: 09/06/2025 Job Type: 6 Month Contract Overview: This role is focused on supporting a data centre energy efficiency initiative by developing robust tracking, reporting, and forecasting mechanisms related to hardware demises and overall energy consumption reductions. The analyst will play a pivotal role in capturing, analysing, and documenting data-driven insights to measure and report on sustainability improvements across the infrastructure. Key Deliverables: Develop a comprehensive map of specifications and historical energy usage for decommissioned (demised) hardware to establish an annual baseline forecast. Propose and document requirements for a real-time energy consumption tracking system for active devices to accurately attribute energy savings to decommissioned equipment. Calculate current year total energy savings and forecast annualised savings for subsequent years due to hardware demises. Produce detailed documentation outlining the methodologies, processes, and procedures used-serving as a reusable framework for future projects. Define requirements and identify data sources and systems of record for implementing automated reporting solutions to streamline sustainability tracking. Develop automated reports to track project performance against energy reduction forecasts and generate insights on actual and projected energy savings. Standardise processes to consistently identify and capture data for future orphan servers. Create templates for estimating potential energy savings from future orphan server demises. Collect and analyse energy-related data (e.g., power consumption, utilisation) for each identified orphan server. Conduct process mapping for current data flows, identifying key sources, methods of retrieval, and highlighting any information gaps. Core Responsibilities: Gather and analyse data on decommissioned hardware, including historical energy usage. Develop an annual energy usage forecast and methodology for estimating energy reductions. Design and implement a tracking mechanism for energy consumption with monthly reporting capability. Define methodologies for attributing energy savings to specific hardware demises. Specify requirements for future automated reports and document all aspects of the process from data acquisition to reporting. Required Skills & Tooling: Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and SQL for data manipulation and reporting. Familiarity with data centre infrastructure, including key energy metrics such as Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE). Experience with energy monitoring software and tools commonly used in data centre environments. Basic knowledge of database structures and querying for data analysis. Domain Knowledge Required: Understanding of data centre infrastructure and server inventory management best practices. Experience working with inventory management tools used to track server assets. Familiarity with server hardware and their associated energy consumption profiles. Ability to perform basic data analysis for estimating energy savings. Expertise in process mapping, writing requirements documentation, and building business cases.
