Overview
We are looking for an experienced and detail-driven Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you'll be responsible for designing bespoke vehicles and metal products, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance throughout the development process. Reporting to the Design Manager, you'll lead critical design projects, mentor junior team members, and work closely with production teams to bring concepts to life. This role offers an opportunity to apply technical expertise, take ownership of complex engineering projects, and shape the next generation of high-performance GSE (Ground Support Equipment) designs.
Responsibilities
* Take direction from the Design Manager to develop design bespoke vehicles and similar metal products in a timely manner.
* Ensure all design drawings are consistent and of a high level of accuracy and quality.
* Liaise with production floor teams.
* Produce models, drawings, cut lists, jigs and be trained to use nesting software.
* Produce manuals for engineers and customers.
* Create and maintain a log of design issues to ensure they are managed and resolved.
* Provide support by developing current designs to incorporate improvement measures to existing GSE designs.
* Source and select the most appropriate materials for product design to meet customer requirements.
* Implement detailed structural and strength calculations to assess tolerance and stress analysis of mechanical components.
* Prepare technical documentation such as design specifications, design reports and procurement specifications.
* Ensure all work complies with ISO 9001 procedures and company health and safety procedures.
* Raise design changes for feasibility, cost and timing; implement with care and obtain approval from the Design Manager.
* Maintain adherence to the ISO 9001 Quality management system.
* Maintain a clean and tidy work area.
Qualifications
* Experience in designing bespoke vehicles and metal products with strong attention to detail.
* Ability to produce and review design drawings, models, and related documentation.
* Experience with nesting software, jigs, cut lists, and creating manuals for engineers and customers.
* Familiarity with structural and strength calculations for mechanical components.
* Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management system requirements and health and safety procedures.
