Position Title: Senior Early Years Practitioner
Directorate: Children, Young People and Partnerships
Location: Mauricewood Primary School
Contract Status: Permanent
Hours of Work: 36 hours per week
Working Pattern: Monday to Thursday 8.00 am – 4.30 pm; Friday 8.00 am – 12.00 pm
Weeks per year: 39
Please note that it is Midlothian Council policy that successful applicants will be appointed to the first point on the salary scale. Based on 36 hours over 39 weeks per year, the minimum actual salary for this position is £33,742.67 per annum.
Essential qualifications and experience
* Experience in a childcare environment.
* Practitioner level qualification (e.g., SVQ3 in Childcare & Early Years Education or an HNC in Childcare and Education, or equivalent) that meets the requirements for SSSC (Scottish Social Services Council) registration.
* Qualifications previously recognised for SNNEB/NNEB registration may be acceptable.
* Must hold the Level 2 Child Protection and Risk Assessment and Process Training; the Elementary Food Hygiene and First Aid for Childcare Certificate.
* Proven leadership qualities with good communication, organisational, motivational, and interpersonal skills.
* Evidence of good teamwork and collaboration skills, a flexible and responsive approach, self-motivation, and the ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to take on additional responsibilities as required and a commitment to innovative and creative practice.
* Passion and flair for working with young children and families; commitment to equality and social inclusion.
* Experience in development and implementation of service plans and programmes; participation in local networking and working groups.
* Sound working knowledge of young children’s learning and development, local and national policy, research, legislation and documentation; understanding of quality ELC as defined by current guidelines and legislation.
Desirable qualifications
* BA in Childhood Practices
* Froebel qualification
* Experience of supporting children with ASN, knowledge of positive behaviour strategies, and experience using a family learning approach to support children and families.
Responsibilities and duties
* Develop and implement service plans and programmes for Early Learning and Childcare (ELC).
* Contribute to local networking and working groups to improve service provision.
* Lead and work collaboratively within the Early Years team to deliver high-quality learning experiences for children and families.
Requirements
* Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. You must not apply if barred from working with children.
* PVG Scheme membership for Regulated Work with Children is required before commencing employment; you will be required to join or update the PVG scheme at your cost (Disclosures Scotland information applies).
