Location: Base site Pharmacy – Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. Working may also occur at other HHFT sites depending on requirements.
Job Summary
We are looking to recruit a Pharmacy Assistant to work in a busy, friendly pharmacy team. The role involves ward top‑ups, goods in, order picking and the receipt of medical gases. This position is vital to maintain patient care and requires close working relationships with ward staff and pharmacy colleagues at our other sites.
You must be willing to work hard, manage your own workload and meet the needs of our service users.
We will consider recruiting the right candidate for a band 2 to band 3 progressive post if you do not have all the criteria listed below.
Working Pattern & Contract
* Permanent contract
* Full‑time with flexible working pattern depending on minimum hours per week; part‑time is also considered.
* Band 3 (potential for progression to band 2/3)
* Salary: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum pro‑rate
Role Description
The Pharmacy Assistant will support daily pharmacy operations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of medication and supplies. The role is essential for maintaining the quality of patient care and involves close collaboration with ward and pharmacy teams across the trust.
Responsibilities
* Perform ward top‑ups, goods in, order picking and receipt of medical gases.
* Maintain accurate records and ensure supplies are available for patient care.
* Collaborate closely with ward staff and pharmacy colleagues at other sites.
* Manage workload independently and meet service user needs.
* Work on weekends and bank holidays as part of a rota.
* Follow set procedures and maintain high standards of accuracy and safety.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* GCSE in Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent qualification).
* Numeracy and literacy to a good standard.
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Pharmacy Service Skills.
Essential Experience & Knowledge
* Previous customer service experience, including speaking on the phone and face‑to‑face.
* Experience using computers, particularly Microsoft Office and web‑based learning.
* Experience of general office duties.
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to prioritise work, manage time efficiently and maintain attention to detail.
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
* Ability to follow set procedures and concentrate in a busy environment.
* Good general health, capable of walking, pushing trolleys and lifting heavy items.
* Responsible and punctual.
* Ability to work weekends, bank holidays and late shift as part of a rota.
* Ability to work across both hospital sites (RHCH & BNHH).
Desirable
* Previous pharmacy experience.
* Experience with WellSky or an equivalent computer system.
* Knowledge of stock control and stock rotation.
