Overview
The post of Consultant Radiographer in Breast Imaging will deliver autonomous clinical practice of breast services in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital NHS Trust in accordance with the NHS Cancer Plan. It is part of a clinical team led by the Director of Breast Screening to provide and develop consultant level radiographic leadership and practice in the field of diagnostic breast imaging.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide independent clinical breast examination.
* Interpret breast screening and symptomatic mammograms, including formulation of radiology reports.
* Conduct breast ultrasound examinations and interpretation, with formulation of radiology reports.
* Perform independent percutaneous breast procedures under free‑hand, ultrasound or stereotactic guidance (cyst aspiration, abscess or seroma drainage, core biopsy, vacuum‑assisted core biopsy, scout localisation and localisation wire insertion).
* Provide expert clinical radiographic input into the clinical governance strategy of the Trust.
* Deliver effective clinical leadership, communicating and encouraging best practice and evidence‑based care to patients within the Trust.
* Provide cover for Radiology Breast Consultant duties, working flexibly where required.
* Provide education, training, supervision, mentorship and ongoing support for under‑ and post‑graduate radiographers and specialist radiology trainees in breast imaging.
Competency Requirements
Provision of diagnostic imaging to the same level of competency as a Consultant Radiologist, including screening and symptomatic mammographic interpretation, diagnostic breast ultrasound and percutaneous interventional breast procedures.
