Financial Controller
Location: Watford
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am 6:00pm

Company Overview We are a fast-growing used car supermarket with multiple locations and an inventory of over 1,000 vehicles. We are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Financial Controller to lead our finance team at our Watford site. This is a key role, responsible for driving financial strategy, ensuring robust financial controls, and supporting the company's continued growth. We offer a clear pathway for progression to Finance Director or CFO within 2-3 years for the right candidate.
Responsibilities Financial Strategy & Planning: Lead financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting to support business growth.
Management Accounts: Prepare and present accurate monthly management accounts, providing insights into performance and key metrics.
Cash Flow & Working Capital: Oversee cash flow management and stock funding to ensure liquidity.
Financial Controls & Compliance: Implement and maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (including VAT and HMRC).
Audit & Taxation: Manage year-end accounts, audits, and tax filings; liaise with external auditors and tax advisors.
Process Improvement: Drive efficiency and accuracy by identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes.
Leadership & Team Development: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of 4 Accounts Assistants, ensuring high team performance and growth.
Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with senior management, providing financial insights and strategic guidance.
Requirements Industry Experience: Proven experience as a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or senior accountant. Experience within the Motor Trade Industry is of 2+ Years.
Qualifications: ACCA, CIMA, or ACA qualified (or part-qualified with significant relevant experience).
Technical Proficiency: Extensive hands-on experience with Xero accounting software is essential. Strong Excel skills required. Familiarity with Dealer Management Systems (DMS) is advantageous.
Leadership Ability: Proven experience managing and developing finance teams; hands-on leadership style.
Analytical Skills: Strong financial analysis and problem-solving abilities.
Attention to Detail: High accuracy in financial reporting and compliance.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with senior management, auditors, and external stakeholders.
