Infrastructure Engineer - Deployed Hosting Services
Location: Portsmouth (Onsite; Some Hybrid Possible)**
Contract: 12 Months, Inside IR35
Clearance: SC required to start; DV required while in role**
Carbon60 Project Services are recruiting an Infrastructure Engineer to support the build, deployment and configuration of secure hosting environments. This is a hands‑on technical role focused on delivering new infrastructure platforms and supporting deployed systems across compute, storage, virtualisation and Windows services.
You'll work as part of an engineering team responsible for standing up environments, integrating services, conducting validation and ensuring systems are fully documented and ready for operational use.
Key Responsibilities
Build, configure and deploy infrastructure platforms including compute, storage and virtualisation components.
Install, configure and maintain Windows Server 2019/2022, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
Deploy and support VMware ESXi, vCenter and virtual machine environments.
Support the setup and upkeep of development, test and reference environments.
Follow established build procedures, configuration standards and security requirements.
Perform system validation, testing and troubleshooting.
Produce and update technical documentation, build guides and configuration records.
Provide operational support to deployed hosting platforms.
Essential Experience
Recent experience deploying and supporting deployed infrastructure (compute, storage, VMware, firewalls, etc.).
Strong hands-on background with Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policy.
Solid experience supporting VMware virtual environments.
3-5+ years' experience building and delivering enterprise infrastructure platforms.
Ability to work independently on technical tasks and follow structured engineering processes.
Desirable Experience
VMware ESXi 8.0 / vCenter 7.0 or 8.0
VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF4+)
Dell VxRail deployment
Dell or HP server hardware build experience
Networking fundamentals (VLANs, switching, routing basics)
Linux exposure (Red Hat or Ubuntu)
Experience working within secure, constrained or deployed environments
VMware NSX‑T
VMware Aria Suite (vROps, vRLI)
Qualifications (Desirable)

Microsoft MCSA
ITIL Foundation
