Production Engineer- Based onsite Gloucester
This Production Engineer role focuses on improving and controlling manufacturing processes within a mechanical, industrial environment. The position supports a value-stream team and involves driving process optimisation, enhancing flow, reducing waste and maintaining consistent quality. It requires hands-on Production Engineering experience with a mechanical bias, particularly across industrial processes such as mixing, impregnation, pressing, CNC machining and oven-based operations. The role also works closely with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering to develop PFMEAs, Control Plans and SOPs, while analysing production data to identify issues and implement effective process controls.
A key element of the role is supporting the introduction of new products and processes using structured methodologies such as APQP. It also involves designing, managing and maintaining tooling, fixtures and jigs, as well as troubleshooting process issues to improve equipment effectiveness. This position suits someone experienced in mechanical manufacturing who is comfortable applying standard Production Engineering tools, collaborating across functions and operating in a fast-paced environment where detail, methodical thinking and continuous improvement are essential.
Key Responsibilities
1. Deliver day-to-day Production Engineering support within an assigned value stream, with a clear mechanical bias.
2. Apply standard Production Engineering tools to ensure accurate and consistent process control.
3. Conduct PFMEA, Control Plan and SOP development in collaboration with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering.
4. Maintain accurate, up-to-date SOPs for all production processes and products.
5. Map and optimise processes using tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Yamazumi charts, Spaghetti diagrams and MOST time studies.
6. Drive improvements in flow, efficiency and waste reduction across industrial processes (mixing, impregnation, pressing, CNC machining, ovens).
7. Design, manage and maintain tooling, fixtures and jigs within the value stream.
8. Monitor and analyse manufacturing data to identify issues and propose continuous improvement solutions.
9. Provide technical troubleshooting expertise to support process stability and improve equipment effectiveness (OEE).
10. Support the introduction of new products and processes using structured APQP methodologies.
11. Participate in Lean activities, audits and cross-functional problem-solving initiatives.
12. Contribute to KPI reporting and annual improvement planning for the Production Engineering function.
13. Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.
Key Skills & Experience
14. Strong Production Engineering background with a mechanical bias.
