About the Role
Our client, a leading logistics and transport business, is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to take ownership of their Leeds depot. This senior, hands-on role combines strategic oversight with day-to-day operational leadership to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned logistics professional to shape operational strategy, optimise workflows, and embed consistent processes across transport and warehouse operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead, coach, and develop the depot team to maximise performance, engagement, and succession strength.
2. Oversee transport and warehouse operations to ensure compliance, safety, efficiency, and service delivery standards.
3. Manage the depot P&L, controlling costs, analysing operational data, and implementing cost-saving initiatives.
4. Optimise vehicle utilisation, route planning, and driver performance in collaboration with planning and fleet teams.
5. Drive continuous improvement initiatives, process optimisation, and technology adoption to enhance efficiency.
6. Conduct regular operational reviews, audits, and safety checks to maintain compliance and performance standards.
7. Act as the senior on-site representative, ensuring alignment between the depot and Head Office.
Skills & Experience Required
8. Proven experience in a senior logistics, transport, or operations management role with strategic and operational accountability.
9. Strong knowledge of UK transport legislation, compliance, and health & safety.
10. Hands-on leadership style with the ability to balance daily operational management and strategic improvement.
11. Commercially minded with a record of managing budgets and delivering profit improvement.
12. Excellent people management, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
13. Experience in depot turnaround, growth, or network development projects is advantageous.
14. CPC in Road Transport Management or experience in temperature-controlled/time-critical logistics is desirable.
