SEN Cover Supervisor
Blackpool
Pay: £15 - £15 per hour (salary dependant on experience and/or qualifications)
Start Date: Immediate/Flexible
Summary
Vision for Education is seeking passionate and dedicated SEN Specialist Cover Supervisors to join our successful supply teaching team and support our partner secondary schools across Blackpool and surrounding areas. This role is ideal for individuals who have a genuine interest in supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and want to make a positive impact in inclusive classroom environments.
The Role
As an SEN Cover Supervisor, you will supervise and support pupils in the absence of their regular teacher, with a particular focus on those with additional learning needs. You will be responsible for managing the classroom, maintaining a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, and ensuring that pupils remain engaged with pre-prepared work set by the class teacher.
You may be asked to cover a variety of subjects across various key stages, but you will not be required to plan or deliver new lessons. Full training and resources will be provided.
The key aspects of an SEN Cover Supervisor role include:
- Support the learning and engagement of pupils, particularly those with EHCP’s and/or additional needs
- Promote positive behaviour and implement strategies tailored to individual pupil needs
- Follow safeguarding and SEND policies and procedures
- Record attendance and maintain accurate registers
- Provide detailed handover notes for the returning teacher, including any relevant observations on pupil progress or wellbeing
This role is a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in a specialist setting prior to pursuing a career in teaching, SEN support, educational psychology, or youth work. While prior experience in a school or SEN environment is desirable, it is not essential as training and ongoing support will be provided.
The desired SEN Cover Supervisor will have:
- A genuine passion for supporting young people, particularly those with Special Educational Needs.
- A commitment to providing high-quality care, guidance, and educational support
- A willingness to learn and adapt to different needs and classroom environments
- A friendly, approachable, and patient manner
- The confidence to be calm, assertive, and supportive when managing behaviour or challenging situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
- A flexible and reliable approach to work, including availability at short notice
This role often involves responding to short-notice cover needs, so flexibility is important. Ideally, you’ll be available to work between 8:30am and 3:00pm, Monday to Friday, but we understand that everyone’s schedule is different. Whether you're available one day a week or five, we offer flexible opportunities to suit your lifestyle.
By joining our successful supply team, you’ll gain valuable experience in a range of inclusive educational settings, while making a real difference in the lives of pupils with additional needs.
