About The Role
An exciting opportunity to join the Council’s ASB Enforcement Team. Birmingham Council is looking to recruit a Community Officer – a role that engages with people begging, rough sleeping, street drinking and other anti‑social behaviour affecting businesses and the wider community. You will provide help and support to those who need it, directing them to the available support services. This is a high‑profile, rewarding role that makes a real difference to the lives of those experiencing anti‑social behaviour.
Responsibilities
* Investigate anti‑social behaviour incidents across a broad range of tenures and the wider community.
* Contact support services.
* Patrol Council wards as directed.
* Collect information by interviewing residents, perpetrators and witnesses.
* Manage a varied and complex caseload.
* Offer guidance, support and protection to victims of anti‑social behaviour and connect them with organisations such as Victim Support if needed.
* Collaborate with police, local councils and other organisations to address complex issues and work on community‑wide safety plans.
* Resolve issues through a multi‑agency approach, providing an effective response via intervention, prevention and enforcement to achieve best outcomes for residents and businesses.
* Operate professionally and efficiently to deliver a high‑quality service in line with council policies and procedures.
* Investigate, gather evidence, prepare witness statements to support legal proceedings and give evidence in court.
Training
Training will be provided on site.
Person Specification
* Calm and assertive manner, dealing professionally and diplomatically with people from all backgrounds.
* Resilient character; able to handle confrontational interactions with offenders.
* Ability to defuse hostile situations professionally.
* Good observational and organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills for report writing and speaking with members of the public.
* Self‑motivated and able to work under pressure and independently or as part of a team.
* Capable of being on your feet and walking for long periods in varying weather conditions.
* Requires full UK driving licence.

* Provide a full five‑year checkable employment history.
* Willingness to undergo a DBS check.
