We are looking for an enthusiastic Gastroenterologist to co‑lead our upper GI Cancer service as part of an exciting expansion of our service this year.
This post comprises 7.625 Direct Clinical Activities and 2.375 Supporting Professional Activities.
The post‑holder will be on call for the acute gastrointestinal bleeding rota, covering both THH and Harefield Hospital on a 1‑week in 7‑8 basis.
The post attracts one PA within the DCC allocation, with future plans to remove the Harefield commitment and reduce the PA allocation by 0.5.
Applicants must hold a CCT in Gastroenterology and GIM or be within 6 months of CCT to be eligible to apply for the post.
You will join a team of six consultants including Dr Grover (Hepatology & Gastroenterology), Dr Lean (Upper GI Cancer Lead), Dr Postgate (ERCP & Interventional Endoscopy), Dr Rameshshanker (Complex Interventional Endoscopy & Endoscopy Lead), Dr Arun Rajendran (Endoscopy Training Lead) and Dr Sid Oke (Nutrition Lead, IBD Lead).
Duties / Responsibilities
* Provide an effective and comprehensive service for patients and support continuing service developments under the immediate line management of the Gastroenterology Clinical Lead.
* Participate in the on‑call GI bleed / Gastroenterology rota on an approximately 1:8 basis with full recruitment.
* Co‑lead the upper GI Cancer service, working closely with the current Lead.
* Vet suspected cancer referrals and review patients in clinics (face‑to‑face, telephone, paper or virtual) and, as needed, general gastroenterology referrals.
* Provide emergency out‑of‑hours cover to Harefield Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital as part of the bleeding rota; future plans may involve a regular on‑site commitment.
* Run inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology services, including an advisory service for colleagues.
* Participate in the training and professional development of medical and other professional staff; contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching and GP education.
* Continue professional development (CPD) and revalidation in line with guidance and help the department meet JAG accreditation objectives.
* Work with other Gastroenterology Consultants to achieve national waiting time targets.
* Provide clear evidence of SPA activities, including clinical and educational supervision, audit and personal CPD; perform or lead at least one medical audit per year.
* Develop specialist interests in Gastroenterology within the needs of the department.
* Participate in medical advisory and liaison work of the hospital Consultant Staff Committee and other committees (e.g., Clinical Governance, Safeguarding Adults, Transfusion, Resuscitation, Medicines Management).
* Collaborate with the Lead Clinician and Senior Nurse Management Team to develop and implement relevant policies for the department.
* Support recruitment and appointment of junior medical staff in consultation with the Department of People and Development and the Unplanned Care Senior Nurse Management Team, including allocation and supervision of clinical duties.
Qualifications and Experience
* Full GMC registration.
* Experience working in the NHS.
* Completed or within six months of a CCT in Gastroenterology and Medicine.
