Job overview

Within Maternity services, an exciting opportunity for a Midwifery Preceptorship Facilitator has arisen, to work alongside the Maternity Practice Development Co-ordinator and the wider Maternity Training team. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and committed Midwife with strong clinical leadership and facilitation skills. The maternity training team provide a high-quality training and development service across the entire maternity workforce and pride themselves on being supportive, approachable and knowledgeable. The team works across all ELHT hospital sites to deliver training, education and preceptorship support in a variety of settings. Within the team, the Midwifery Preceptorship Lead Midwife will develop and provide support for the facilitation of preceptorship activity with newly qualified Midwives in maternity services. This post is 37.5 hours per week, fixed term for a period of 18 months. For further information regarding this post, please refer to the job description and specification.


Main duties of the job

The Preceptorship Lead Midwife will work closely with all members of the midwifery workforce, including relevant stakeholders. They will be required to provide advice and support to the wider team; this will include supporting analysis of intelligence and the provision of innovative suggestions to support the onboarding and professional growth of the midwifery profession. The preceptorship lead midwife will be confident to develop and provide support to the facilitation of preceptorship activity with staff across the Trust. The preceptorship lead midwife will be an autonomous practitioner, promoting the best practice and highest Director of Midwifery Consultant Midwife Midwifery Preceptorship Facilitator standards within maternity services. As a highly motivated individual, with a passion for providing high quality solutions to problem solve, the postholder will have an in-depth understanding of the maternity workforce climate. Leading by example, the preceptorship lead midwife will empower staff in their professional development. As a midwife with an expert knowledge of staffing challenges, you will be responsible for liaising, guiding and advising maternity stakeholders with meeting the requirements within the visions and values of the Trust. The postholder will provide professional and pastoral advice, guidance and mentorship. The postholder will also participate in the education and training of the maternity workforce. The successful candidate is expected to promote compassionate leadership and high standards. The preceptorship lead midwife will be actively involved with audit, quality and service improvement. The preceptorship lead midwife will be highly visible, accessible within clinical practice, demonstrating the trust vision and values in all behaviours.

Qualifications


Essential criteria

* Registered Midwife
* Current professional registration
* Accredited mentorship qualification or equivalent experience


Desirable criteria

* Appraisal trained
* Master's degree or willing to undertake
* Leadership qualification or completion of leadership programme
* NIPE qualification


Experience


Essential criteria

* Experience in a community setting
* Evidence of practice as a Band 6 midwife
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Able to demonstrate an understanding of the national vision for maternity services and the wider health service
* Ability to manage people and change
* Experience of conflict management


Desirable criteria

* Significant post registration experience in all areas of Midwifery
* Experience in research
* Experience in audit
* Experience in HR and people management


Knowledge and skills
