Pupil Support Officer - fixed term until 26/06/2026
Portobello Learning Community based in Brunstane Primary School
Salary: £28,046 - £32,010 (pro-rata for sessional)
Hours: 36 per week, 39 weeks sessional
This post offers an exciting opportunity to work within the Portobello Learning Community, which includes Portobello High School and feeder primaries such as Brunstane, Duddingston, Parson's Green, The Royal High, and Towerbank.
Portobello Learning Community aims to enhance the wellbeing, attendance, and attainment of pupils by providing targeted support to remove emotional, practical, and financial barriers to effective school attendance.
We seek an enthusiastic, solution-focused individual to plan interventions supporting pupils and their families in overcoming attendance barriers. These include:
* Mental health supports such as anxiety management and bereavement/loss programmes for pupils and adults
* Parenting Support Programmes
* Connecting families with third-sector support
* Practical support such as running a community foodbank, assistance with grant funding, uniform bank applications, Free School Meals applications, and support attending health appointments (e.g., CCH, SALT, CAMHS)
* Making applications to the care experienced fund
The role involves building partnerships with other support organizations to enhance capacity and expertise within the learning community, building on existing relationships to ensure impactful support.
The ideal candidate will have experience building relationships with individuals who may have previously disengaged from support services.

This position involves regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The successful candidate must join or update their PVG Scheme membership. If the candidate has spent over 3 months outside the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check is required. Employment is contingent on satisfactory completion of these checks.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary, with annual increases until it reaches the top of the range.
