Job Description

New Directions Education is working with a Primary SEND school on the Wirral that is looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their team.

This is a 4 days per week role, starting mid-February, and is ongoing, offering a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference supporting pupils with additional needs.

Location: Wirral
Start Date: Mid-February
Hours: 4 days per week
Contract: Ongoing

The Role:
You will be supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs within a specialist primary setting, helping them access learning, develop independence, and feel supported in school.

Key Responsibilities:

– Providing tailored support to pupils with SEN
– Supporting communication, social and emotional development
– Assisting with classroom activities and routines
– Working closely with teachers and specialist staff
– Creating a calm, structured and inclusive environment

– Experience working with children with SEN
– Patient, nurturing and resilient approach
– Strong communication and teamwork skills
– Ability to adapt to individual pupil needs

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

1. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
2. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
3. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
4. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
5. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

Jobs in additional learning needs (ALN)

A large number of our jobs are in ALN and we fill many vacancies in schools with candidates who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

6. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
7. Dyslexia
8. Dyspraxia
9. Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
10. Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
11. Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
12. Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
13. Severe Learning Difficulties
14. Physical Disabilities (PD).

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

15. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
16. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
17. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
18. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
19. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
