Carbon60 is looking for Safety Engineer to work for a defence company based in Stevenage. This position is a 12 month contract that will likely be extended further. The Safety Engineer will be responsible for delivering the safety analysis and assurance that will enable one of the company's products to be integrated onto a range of platforms. This will involve close collaboration with internal delivery teams, as well as UK and international customers. The successful candidate will liaise with key stakeholders, including external customers, platform authorities, and stakeholders within the company, to help define the safety boundary and take a leading role in producing and evolving the associated Safety Management Plans and delivering the required safety analyses. The ideal candidate for this Safety Engineer role will have the following qualifications and experience: - Expertise in hazard identification exercises, such as SWIFT and HAZOP - Proficiency in hazard management and risk analysis, including functional failure, fault tree, and event tree analyses - Thorough understanding and experience of how the hazard analysis process integrates with the system engineering process to influence the design - Ability to construct safety arguments and contribute to ALARP statements and Safety Case Reports - Experience providing support to internal and external project Safety Panels and Committees - Familiarity with DEF-STAN 00-056 (and, ideably, other similar international standards), including the ability to define and write Safety Management Plans that meet its requirements - Desirable: Detailed electronic engineering experience, education to degree or HND level or a comparable level of experience, experience in other engineering disciplines (especially software), and knowledge of IEC 61508/DO178C/DO-254 The successful Safety Engineer will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a proven track record as an effective team player with strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
