Assistant Electrical Engineer Substations Due to the sustained growth of our client, Danny Sullivan Group are looking for Assistant Electrical Engineers to join their power division. This position can be worked from company offices in North or West London. In this role, you will play a vital role in supporting the design, permitting, and construction of electrical substations. You will gain valuable experience in the power industry while working on critical infrastructure projects. With requirements for grid upgrades due to increased energy demand, this sector is rapidly growing so will produce good career opportunities. Responsibilities: Assist senior engineers with the electrical design of substations, including power distribution equipment selection, relaying and protection schemes, grounding systems, and lighting design. Prepare and review electrical drawings and schematics using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical). Conduct electrical calculations to ensure proper equipment sizing and system capacity. Assist with the development of technical specifications for electrical equipment and materials. Support the preparation of permit applications and coordinate with regulatory agencies. Participate in site visits and inspections to verify electrical equipment installation and ensure compliance with design documents and safety regulations. Perform basic testing procedures on electrical equipment during commissioning. Maintain project documentation and records. Assist with cost estimating and scheduling tasks. Stay up-to-date on relevant electrical codes and standards (e.g., National Electrical Code (NEC)). Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. 1-3 years of experience in electrical engineering design or construction, preferably in the power industry or with relevant electrical projects. Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals and design principles. Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar electrical CAD software. Experience with electrical calculations and power system analysis software (a plus). Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and collaboration skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
