As a Consultant Old Age Psychiatrist, your skills and experience are vital to providing psychiatric services for older patients at Auckland Park Hospital. You will support junior doctors and deliver specialised, holistic assessment, treatment, and ongoing care for older patients with mental health issues.
Working flexible shifts, you will collaborate closely with your consultancy team to understand patient issues, develop management strategies, and employ therapeutic skills to facilitate recovery.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Assess new referrals, deliver therapy, refer to psychologists, and follow up on medication reviews.
* Develop care and treatment plans, prescribe treatments, and advise on evidence-based practices.
* Support patients and families, explaining diagnoses and treatment options clearly.
* Communicate with patients and the multidisciplinary team for shared decision-making.
* Lead or participate in multidisciplinary team activities.
* Assess patient needs, prioritize care, and delegate tasks effectively.
* Monitor patient status and communicate changes to the team.
* Maintain records, prescribe medications, and manage treatment plans.
* Teach and train junior doctors, medical students, and team members.
Qualifications, Licenses, and Certifications
* MBChB or equivalent.
* Six months recent NHS experience within the last three years.
