Summary
The Building Surveyor - Diagnostics is a technical post (PO7) within the London Borough of Islington's Housing Property Services / Repairs and Maintenance unit. The primary function of the role is to act as the key technical specialist responsible for visiting customers in their homes and identifying defects that are the Council’s responsibility to repair.
The Surveyor will diagnose the cause of building failures, arrange and oversee remedial works, provide tailored advice and manage cases relating to complex issues such as damp, mould, condensation, subsidence and insurance claims. This role requires a highly organised and proactive individual able to manage their own caseload, administer contracts and prepare detailed technical reports for senior review.
Responsibilities
* Carry out building inspections as necessary to diagnose the cause of building defects in all types of Council-owned properties.
* Diagnose building defects and recommend the associated remedial action with a good understanding of building pathology, damp, mould and condensation.
* Raise work orders using the National Housing Federation Schedule of Rates or specifications as appropriate.
* Provide a prompt courteous and helpful response when dealing with queries from customers and representatives.
* Assess alteration requests from tenants and leaseholders and complete compliance paperwork.
* Undertake quality assurance checks on works in progress or completed.
Essentials
* HND/C Building with demonstrable post-qualification experience of BSc Building and 2 years post-qualification experience OR Proven experience in Demonstrable Building surveying experience.
* A surveying or construction related qualification is preferable but not essential.
* Working knowledge of the building industry codes of practice, measured term and building forms of contract and the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
* Social Housing surveying experience is preferable but not essential.

* This role requires a Basic DBS.
