£46.90 per hour umbrella
Hybrid working – 1-2 days per week on site (either Broad Oak in Portsmouth or Scotstoun Glasgow)
Job Role:
Applies design knowledge in mechanical aspects of all Power and Propulsion (P&P) to resolve specialist design problems and issues.
Assists with the development of Power and Propulsion systems, providing design input to subcontractors, and ensuring the architecture and detailed design are fit for purpose, technically viable, and safe for specific auxiliary systems.
Supports the development of SQEP within the P&P sub-discipline.
Key areas of activity:
* Develops, maintains, and modifies engineering processes and procedures in response to technical developments and operational needs.
* Conducts technical analyses and investigations, evaluates technical options, and drafts reports with recommendations to resolve problems and improve engineering capabilities.
* Familiar with the design of Power and Propulsion systems, delivering solutions that meet customer requirements throughout the shipbuilding cycle. Able to analyze engineering issues and recommend solutions.
* Conducts integration of P&P components such as engine prime movers, uptakes & downtakes, couplings, clutches, brakes, gearings, thrust blocks, shafting, bearings, seals, controllable pitch propellers, and propulsion systems into overall ship design.
* Considers transversal factors affecting complex warship design, including underwater noise, shock, survivability, operability, reliability, human factors, and supportability, to influence overall design solutions.
Key Attributes:
* Degree qualified in engineering or related discipline (not essential).
* Eligible for registration as an Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council and membership of a relevant professional body.
* Experience in Marine Engineering Systems, including design, build, integration, support, and operation of Naval ships.
* Knowledge of shipbuilding, operational processes, and modern build strategies.
* Familiarity with marine engineering processes and tools.
* Awareness of lifecycle management reviews of bids and programmes.
* Knowledge of industry advancements and external market developments.
* Understanding of how marine engineering integrates with other technologies and products.
* Commercial awareness.
* Knowledge of applying specialization in the maritime environment.
