Plant Manager & Hire Controller

About Us
We are a well-established Groundworks company with a large fleet of plant, tools, and equipment supporting our projects across the region. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a proactive, organised Hire Controller to manage our plant operations from our workshop along side managing hired in plant and equipment.
The Plant Manager Role
As our Hire Controller and Plant Manager based in our workshop, you will oversee the full lifecycle of plant and tool management, managing both company-owned equipment and externally hired tools and machinery
Permanent position -
Monday to Friday
8am to 5pm
Key Responsibilities of the Plant Manager
* Coordinating the hire, allocation, and return of plant, tools, and equipment.
* Tracking plant and tool usage, locations, and job costing.
* Managing external hires, negotiating rates, and monitoring hire periods.
* Booking repairs, servicing, and maintenance with internal fitters and external providers.
* Scheduling compliance checks (LOLER, calibrations, lifting certs, PAT testing, etc.).
* Ensuring all equipment remains compliant, certified, and ready for safe site use.
* Monitoring costs and allocating plant charges to the correct jobs.
* Responding to site queries on availability, delivery, repairs, and certification.
* Building strong relationships with hire suppliers and internal teams.
* Ensuring all activity meets company procedures and safety standards.
Requirements for the Plant Manager
* Experience in plant hire, construction, groundworks, or similar operations.
* Highly organised with excellent attention to detail.
* Confident negotiating with suppliers.
* Good IT skills, ideally with hire or asset tracking software. We are using Syrinx.
* Proactive, solutions focused, and able to multitask.
* Clear, professional communication style.
Salary for the Plant Manager - Competitive salary 35k – 50k depending on experience
