Job Summary
The Pathology departments at North Tees and South Tees hospitals are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with all hospital sites contributing through hub and essential services laboratory arrangements. An opportunity has arisen for a motivated biomedical scientist to join the team as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in Blood Transfusion. The post holder will work closely with other senior staff across pathology to support the development of the Tees Valley Pathology Service, delivering a high‑quality service to users. The successful candidate must be HCPC registered and possess excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
* Organise the work and training of BMS and HCSSW staff within the department, ensuring compliance with professional and Trust protocols.
* Supervise day‑to‑day operations of the department to support effective and efficient service provision.
* Assist in the development of new and existing services within the department.
* Operate within the Health Professions Council (HPC) Standards of Proficiency for Biomedical Scientists.
Knowledge
* Advanced knowledge of laboratory techniques, Blood Transfusion and Biomedical science.
* Working knowledge of Pathology IT systems.
* Knowledge of ISO15189 standards.
* Knowledge of MHRA governance.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation and Health & Safety measures.
Essential Qualifications
* IBMS accredited degree.
* HCPC state registration.
* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
* FIBMS, MSc or equivalent in Blood Transfusion or within three months of completing.
Essential Experience
* Significant post‑registration experience at Specialist Biomedical Scientist level or equivalent in Blood Transfusion.
* Experience of using instrumentation and specialised techniques within Blood Transfusion.
* Method validation and verification expertise.

Pay and Contract
Band 7: £49,387 to £56,515 a year (per annum). Permanent contract, full‑time working pattern.
