Are you looking to make a difference to the rewarding and expanding area of Perinatal Mental Health? Do you want to work in a supportive team, for a service which invests in its staff? We are looking for compassionate, innovative, creative and enthusiastic Psychological Therapist to join our supportive and nurturing team and deliver high quality talking therapies for people with perinatal trauma and/or perinatal loss.

The Perinatal Trauma and Loss Service is a Greater Manchester wide, trauma focused therapeutic and Psychological Therapy service for people struggling with emotional and psychological difficulties as a direct result of trauma and/or loss which has resulted from their maternity/perinatal/neonatal or reproductive experience.

The service supports the delivery of the NHS’ Long Term Plan and aims to integrate maternity, reproductive health and psychological therapy for women experiencing mental health difficulties directly arising from or related to the maternity experience.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide highly specialist psychological assessment, intervention and therapy to women referred to the service.

The post holder will be able to work autonomously within professional guidelines to be able to deliver interventions to help women and families who have experienced loss and trauma.

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

7. A qualification in health care at graduate level in nursing, social work or allied health profession PLUS professional registration ( HCPC, NMC) PLUS post- graduate diploma (or equivalent) in cognitive behaviour therapy and accreditation (or working towards accreditation) with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies OR A post-graduate diploma in cognitive behavioural therapy and accreditation (or working towards accreditation) with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies

Desirable criteria

8. Post qualification training in a specialised area of psychological practice ( EMDR, CFT, Prolonged grief interventions).

Experience

Essential criteria

9. Experience in offering appropriate assessment of clients, to use judgement in the planning of care, and to implement specific evidence based therapies.
10. Experience of applying cognitive behavioural therapy approaches.
11. Experience of using trauma focussed interventions.
12. Experience of using psychometric measures.
13. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
14. Experience of conducting high quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans.
15. Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable criteria

16. Experience of providing supervision to other professionals.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

17. Be able to provide effective liaison with colleagues in the wider system, as well as other statutory / non statutory services relevant to the client and their ongoing needs.
18. Contribute when required, to team research and development activities.
19. Evidence of CPD as recommended by a professional registration body.

Desirable criteria

20. Knowledge of policy and legislation in relation to service specialism and of relevant mental health legislation.

21. Communicate directly with clients, partners and families and other healthcare professionals, complex and potentially emotive information
22. Demonstrate skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
23. Demonstrate well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
24. Ability to organise time effectively.
25. Ability to use own initiative and to work under supervision where appropriate.
26. Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other professionals.

Other Requirements

Essential criteria

28. Ability and interest to teach and train others, by developing teaching materials, as well as delivering training using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings.
29. Ability to identify, and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.
30. Ability to travel to a range of locations across the whole of Greater Manchester in a timely and efficient manner, as well as having the ability to offer psychological assessments and interventions online, using video technology.

31. Experience of working within a multicultural framework.

The Trust mandates all post holders who require a DBS for their role to subscribe to the DBS Update Service. You will be required to enrol for this service for a fee of £16 per year and maintain registration throughout your employment with GMMH.
