An inclusive and welcoming primary school in Barnet is seeking a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a bright and capable Year 5 pupil with autism.
The student is well-behaved and academically able, but he struggles with focus and concentration over longer periods. He responds best to calm, patient support from someone who works with him, rather than taking a strict or overly direct approach. This is an exciting opportunity to make a lasting impact and help a child thrive in his learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with ASD
• Encourage engagement and focus in class
• Implement strategies tailored to the pupil’s learning style
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to monitor progress
• Foster a positive, calm, and supportive environment
Requirements
• Experience working with children with autism (preferred)
• A calm, empathetic, and patient nature
• Ability to adapt communication and approach based on student needs
• A genuine passion for supporting SEN pupils
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willing to apply)
Benefits
• Warm, friendly, and inclusive school environment
• Open leadership that values every team member’s voice
• Excellent support from senior staff and SEN specialists
• Opportunity to make a meaningful difference in a child’s development
• Ongoing professional development and guidance
