As one of the Academy specialisms, we are home to a well-resourced, well-budgeted Technology, Engineering and Design department that offers a varied and broad curriculum at all key stages.
At KS3 students study the subject for 2 hours per week and follow a mixed, 5 project curriculum of engineering, design and manufacturing projects. At KS4 current option subjects include GCSE Design and Technology, GCSE 3D Design and Cambridge National in Engineering. During year 11 students study their option choice for 5 hours per fortnight and at A level study the Design and Technology curriculum for 10 hours per fortnight.
The department's facilities include 2 workshops, a CAD suite, a sixth form work space a theory classroom, a staff break and workspace and a well organised and well stocked cutting room. The department vision is strongly supported by leadership and our team of teachers and a supportive technician work hard to deliver a curriculum which encourages students to be innovative, independent and creative. The department is also very supportive of CPD.
We are looking to appoint a passionate, forward thinking and dynamic teacher looking to inspire the next generation of engineers and designers. The right candidate will believe in fostering an engaging and exciting classroom atmosphere that will help develop well rounded, skilled and conscientious designers and engineers.
Teaching and learning is high on the agenda at The Bourne Academy and staff are actively encouraged to constantly develop, experiment and reflect on their practice.

The Bourne Academy
The Bourne Academy is at the heart of the community of East Howe, offering local families an excellent education, new opportunities and facilities that are available to everyone. It aims to raise students' expectations, build their self-confidence, and teach them appropriate skills that allow them to build a successful career and contribute to society. Our sponsors are Canford School, a leading independent school.
Canford believes that good education depends crucially on the relationships that are built up between staff, students, parents and the other stakeholders. Mutual support, pride, ambition, trust and high expectations all combine to allow impressive educational achievements against a background of respect for each other and an acknowledgement of each other's contributions.
Key to building these relationships is the pastoral care at the Academy and the links between the Academy, parents and others in the local community, helped by the academy's central location in East Howe.
