Offer description

West Cambridge | From £27,644 | 37.5 hours | Office based

Like being the person who just gets stuff done?
If you’re the sort who takes pride in things running smoothly and looking spot-on, and you love variety (like genuinely, no two days are the same), this Facilities Assistant role at Cambridge Enterprise might be right up your street.

Why you will love this role:

You’ll be at the heart of the Hauser Forum – one of West Cambridge’s most dynamic buildings. One moment you might be setting up a seminar space for the next big tech breakthrough, ensuring the AV is spot on. The next, you're using your practical skills to fix a minor issue indoors or ensuring the outside spaces are just as welcoming, keeping them litter-free and tidy with a bit of weeding. Sometimes, you’ll also be the friendly face at reception, helping visitors and answering calls, especially when our receptionist is on holiday. You'll take pride in ensuring the entire site, from the reception to the pathways, is presented to the highest standard. You'll be liaising with contractors to get bigger jobs sorted efficiently, conducting building inductions so everyone is safe and sound, and acting as the calm presence during an unexpected event. And when the day’s done, you’ll know you’ve made a real difference – not just stuck behind a desk, but out and about making sure people can do their best work because you’ve created a space that just works.

This isn't just about ticking off a list; it's about creating an environment where brilliant minds can thrive. You'll get the satisfaction of seeing your efforts directly impact the tenants and visitors of the Hauser Forum. You’ll be a key part of the Cambridge Enterprise team, helping make this a place where new ideas can grow. You’ll gain experience in everything from health and safety to event support, all while being a crucial key-holder, trusted to keep things running, occasionally out of hours if an emergency pops up. It’s a role with variety, responsibility, and the chance to learn and grow every day. You won't just be in the building; you'll be essential to it.

What we're looking for:

We're on the lookout for someone who is:

* Comfortable with hands-on, physical tasks, from moving furniture to basic repairs to keeping our outside areas neat and tidy (think litter picking and weeding).
* A proactive problem-solver, always ready to use your initiative.
* Experienced in a facilities or similar hands-on role – you know how things work.
* Comfortable with basic paperwork to keep things organised.
* Good with computers (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willing to learn new things (like how our security alarms work).
* Has a knack for figuring out sound and video equipment, or is happy to learn.
* A great communicator, able to chat easily with everyone from tenants to contractors.
* Really cares about helping people and giving great service, with a ‘no job too small’ attitude
* A real team player, reliable, punctual, and great at managing your own time.
* Able to stay cool and diplomatic, even when things get a bit tricky.

Nice to have:

* Experience in seminar or conference facilities
* Fire safety training or experience as a Fire Marshal
* Experience with health and safety paperwork or checks
