Job Title: School Attendance Officer
Location: Birmingham (Secondary School)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Long-term with the potential to become permanent
Pay Rate: £13.68 - £14.00 per hour (Depending on experience)
GSL Education is currently working with a reputable secondary school in Birmingham to recruit a committed and organised Attendance Officer. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to join a dynamic school environment and make a real difference in student support and engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Monitor daily student attendance and follow up on absences in line with school policy.
* Maintain accurate attendance records using the school’s MIS system (e.g., SIMS or equivalent).
* Make first-day absence calls to parents/carers and follow up on unexplained absences.
* Work closely with pastoral teams, Heads of Year, and the Senior Leadership Team to identify attendance concerns and patterns.
* Produce and analyse attendance data and reports for internal use and external agencies.
* Liaise with external agencies, including the local authority and Education Welfare Officers, to support interventions.
* Arrange and attend parent meetings regarding persistent absenteeism.
* Promote and support strategies to improve attendance across the school.
* Handle sensitive information confidentially and in line with GDPR requirements.
* Provide administrative support to the wider school office team as required.
Candidate Requirements:
* Previous experience in a school or educational setting is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with school MIS systems such as SIMS is preferred.
* Strong organisational and administrative skills.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
* A proactive approach and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
