Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow in Thrombosis, & Haemostasis – Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. The closing date is 02 October 2025.

The post will be based at the Guy's & St Thomas' sites. The postholder should have an interest in gaining further knowledge and experience in the management of patients with thrombosis and acquired bleeding disorders. There is an opportunity to be involved in research to improve management of thrombotic disorders and/or autoimmune disorders and/or acquired bleeding disorders. As a team member, cross-coverage of colleagues on leave may be required. This is an excellent opportunity for those considering a career in Haematology with experience in a teaching hospital with a national and international reputation.


Main duties of the job

Clinical:

* The post holder, with colleagues, is responsible for the provision of thrombosis and acquired bleeding services to the Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, including: diagnosis and treatment of patients within the Trust at hospitals, health centres or clinics as required.
* Continuing clinical responsibility for patients, with proper delegation to and training of staff.

Training of junior staff:

The post holder will take responsibility for the training and direction of junior staff allocated under the training plan agreed with their supervising consultant.

Teaching:

The post holder will contribute to the teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students as appropriate.

About us

The Haematology, Oncology and Haematology Trial team, Cellular Pathology and Support Service directorate comprises several areas, each with its own Clinical Lead, including Haematology, Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Cellular Pathology and Mortuary, Oncology and Haematology Trials team, and Dimbleby Cancer Care Service. The directorate is led by Co-Clinical Directors; the Clinical Lead for Haemostasis and Thrombosis is Dr Pu-Lin Luo. The Haemophilia Director is Dr Gerry Dolan. The post-holder will be accountable to the Clinical Lead for Haemostasis and Thrombosis.

The post holder will be based at the Guy's & St Thomas' sites and will suit someone interested in research in this area.

The Job

Title of Post: Clinical Fellow in Thrombosis, & Haemostasis

Nature of Appointment: Fixed term for 12 months

Responsible To: Dr. Pu-Lin Luo

Accountable To: Dr Pu-Lin Luo, Clinical Lead for Haemostasis & Thrombosis

Department information

The Thrombosis and Thrombophilia team

Due to escalating referral rates, the team is expanding. The Centre provides advisory and consultative services for the Trust and other hospitals, including Anticoagulant control and management of high-risk cases prone to thrombosis (e.g., during pregnancy) and acquired bleeding disorders. Clinics occur on four days a week, with a team including Prof Beverley Hunt, Dr Karen Breen, Dr Pu Lin Luo, Dr Uzma Faruqi, Dr Anicee Danaee, Dr Gerry Dolan, along with a Clinical Research Fellow (this post) and a rotating Haematology SpR. There are Thrombosis Clinical Nurse Specialists and a Research Clinical Nurse Specialist, and nursing staff across related units.

Clinics currently occur in the Haemophilia and Thrombosis centre. The team maintains links with the GSTT Vascular Surgery team, gynaecologists and general surgeons. The Thrombosis and Thrombophilia team also supports targets related to the prevention of hospital-acquired VTE and the management of acute VTE.

The post will be based at the Guy's & St Thomas' sites. The post holder should have an interest in gaining further knowledge and experience in the management of patients with thrombosis and acquired bleeding disorders, and may be involved in research.

To provide clinical input into the management of patients with thrombosis and acquired bleeding disorders; to be involved in research to improve management; to participate in clinical and other service activities to ensure high standards of patient care; to participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

* Full GMC Registration and licence to practice
